Colds and flu
Peppermint, elderflower, garlic, onion, ginger, anything spicy is
warming and loosens phlegm.
Cough
Dry coughs: If mucus in sinuses or nose, treat as for colds and flu.
Liquorice, honey
Phlegmy coughs: cinnamon, fennel, ginger, thyme
Green/yellow phlegm: indicates bacterial infection so thyme, garlic,
onion
Sore Throat
Sage
Food
NO: milk (increases phlegm), sugar (increases phlegm, suppresses immune
system)
Don?t force food: loss of appetite is normal and protective ? eating
less temporarily boosts immune response
Prevent dehydration: mouthful of water every 15 to 30 minutes
Menu suggestions
- Fruit salad with grated
ginger helps shift catarrh. Pineapple,
grape, lemon, orange, grapefruit all help loosen mucus.
- Stewed apples with plenty of
cinnamon and cloves
- Hot lemon and honey
frequently: soothing, removes mucus, resolves
infection.
